Two fics featuring Wilf for the monthly "multi-era" theme, the first of which also fits the "rare team-ups" part of the seasonal challenge.

Title: Home Guard
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] unwillingadventurer
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 582 words
Creator's Summary: In a dingy church hall a new organisation is formed. Well....sort of.
Characters/Pairings: Graham O'Brien, Wilfred Mott, Ian Chesterton
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I felt like Graham really should meet Wilf and this fic delivered, with bonus Ian! It's a fun little scene and the name they find for their new organisation is inspired. ;)

Title: A Noble Tradition
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] theclaravoyant
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 1926 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor loves Christmas, so Ryan, Yaz, and Graham take her to a local Christmas market on Earth, where she runs into some unexpected old friends. (*Very* old friends.)
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Graham O'Brien, Yasmin Khan, Ryan Sinclair, Wilfred Mott, Donna Noble
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: In this one, the whole fam gets to meet Wilf. And Donna. An early christmas story, funny and bittersweet, with a wonderful take on all the characters. I particularly love Thirteen's and Wilf's reactions when they recognize the other.

Title: What We've Become
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] thedeadparrot/ [archiveofourown.org profile] sophinisba
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 4053 words / 25 minutes
Creator's Summary: Donna meets someone new and learns a few things about herself.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble/Martha Jones, Jack Harkness, Wilfred Mott
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is set after "Journey's End" and therefore Donna and Martha have a very different starting point with each other, which is a fascinating imbalance at the start of their relationship. It ends up being a fix-it for Donna, but before it comes to that, I completely love her POV, the way she gets to know Martha and herself and at the same times feels that something isn't quite right. The build-up throughout is just great, and I love the Jack and Wilf cameos.
I initially found the fic through the podfic version, which I'm reccing here as well, because Sophinisba is a great reader and very easy to listen to.

 Title:  Blue Rain
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Shivver
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 55144
Creator's Summary: Original AU. A normal human in a world in which a handful of individuals have suddenly developed superpowers, Donna lives her mundane life whilst always keeping one eye to the skies to catch a glimpse of the city's new heroes.
Characters/Pairings:

Tenth Doctor/Donna Noble Lance Bennett & Donna Noble,  Sylvia Noble, Nerys, Wilfred Mott,
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:  For my Bingo card. Box-WILD CARD (using Alternate Universe).  First part of a series I'm slowly making my way through. It's an intriguing idea; imagining Doctor Who in a superhero world. And this author knows the characters' voices and mannerisms well.

Title: Dust to Dust
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] selenay

Word Count/Length/Size: 2182 words
Creator's Summary: A desert planet and the Doctor's curiosity interfere with Donna's plans for a relaxing holiday.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's an interesting mystery with an equally interesting resolution. But mostly it's just typical Donna and the Tenth Doctor with some amusing description.

Title: Predestination Parenting
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] ParanoidSeat
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 3840 words
Creator's Summary: "Sorry, I don't take passengers who can't tie their own shoelaces. Running's an important part of the job description."
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, Original Male Character, Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for 'Blink'

Reasons for reccing: It's an amusing story of the Doctor and Donna looking after a baby for a while. Donna slaps the Doctor a lot, refuses to change his nappy and then has to explain everything to the Doctor, who really hasn't a clue. And it's also a heartwarming story about what happens to the baby after he leaves the TARDIS. And a bit of a predestination paradox, which gives another layer of interest to the story.

Creator: [livejournal.com profile] petunia_bowl / Petunia Bowl
Rating: Explicit
Word Count/Length/Size: 7691 words
Creator's Summary: Where does it say in the rule book that best friends can't sleep together?
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna Noble
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: Ten/Donna ship fic for the seasonal challenge! This one's explicit, entirely set in a bed, and yet most of it consists of idle and not so idle conversation about being friends, having sex, and maybe a tiny bit about feelings. Also, alien sex tentacles are mentioned at some point. Their relationship feels comfortable and solid, the sex is fun, and the author captures both their voices and mannerisms very well during a conversation that is playful and hilarious with the occasional serious moment in between.

Word Count/Length/Size: 5:27 minutes
Creator's Summary: "...She was the most important woman in the whole wide universe..."
Characters/Pairing: Donna Noble
Warnings/Notes: Major Spoilers for S4, Major Angst & Pain; You will cry.

Reasons for reccing: Donna is one of my absolute favorite companions and I think her story is probably one of the most well written character arc in the show. And this vid is just an absolutely mesmerizing and heartbreaking vid about Donna’s story. It’s just an absolutely brilliant tribute to this character and her story.

For the "Reunion" Square on my Bingo Card.

Title: In Search of Lost Puppies
Creator: [personal profile] navaan
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 1670 words
Creator's Summary: Missy sends him on his quest to find an old companion - and Martha may just send him on a new quest.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor, Missy, Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Bill Potts, background Martha/Mickey
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: There's something sparse and almost contemplative about this that I love; a meditation on companions, sparked by Missy and her interest in the Doctor's "puppies", without any exposition, just through a couple of scenes and moments. Plus, I particularly adore this take on post-canon Martha, who's vivid and happy and sure of herself and her life.

Title: Signs on the Slow Path
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] selena
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5600
Creator's Summary: The Doctor has a lot of reasons for choosing the twentieth and twenty-first century on Earth when guarding the vault. Some he even admits to. Though not necessarily to the people in question.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Dctor & various former companions
Warnings/Notes: n/a

Reasons for reccing: I'm a sucker for "Twelfth Doctor Apology Tour" fics where he goes around fixing all the things that his previous selves did wrong, and this is a good example of that kind of fic with the Doctor visiting many of his past companions (both modern and classic) while he's stuck in Bristol. The ending may or may not have made me tear up a bit.

First up, a Torchwood vid for the monthly "spin-off" theme, basically the exact opposite (in tone and theme) of the SJA fic I recced yesterday:

Title: It's a Long Way Down
Creator: [youtube.com profile] teddeler
Rating: R / mature
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:12 minuted
Creator's Summary: Tribute to John Frobisher from Torchwood, Children of Earth (3rd season).
Characters/Pairings: John Frobisher
Warnings/Notes: violence and bad things happening to kids - everything that was disturbing about "Children of Earth"

Reasons for reccing: "Children of Earth" was when Torchwood dropped its camp half for five episodes and got even darker than before. Lots of things happened to the regular team, but the guy who stole the story for me? John Frobisher, played by Peter Capaldi. This vid captures his character's journey all the way to the catastrophic ending.

Followed by an antidote to the darkness - a vid centered on the Tenth Doctor Era Companions (for my seasonal challenge) framed as a Torchwood file and with comic-relief cameos by Jack and the Torchwood crew:

Title: OMG!
Creator: [youtube.com profile] obsessive24 / [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:21 minutes
Creator's Summary: "I'm just talking over this intermittently to prevent bootleggers." Or: Fun With Companions.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, plus short appearances by the Ninth and Tenth Doctors as well as lots other characters, especially everyone who showed up in "Journey's End"
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is what happens when a brilliant vidder like obsessive24 only has access to a bootlegged version of the song wanted for the vid - and then comes up with a hilarious way of using the random voiceover, i.e. adding a meta frame, in this case Jack Harkness accessing a Torchwood File on the Doctor's companions (for obsessive24's explanation see the livejournal link included below). The initial vid idea for all the companions already makes a great vid on its own, but the random Jack voiceovers add some hilarity. The editing is spectacular and I really like that it ends on the "flying the earth home" bit of "Journey's End", which goes beautifully with the "never been this far away from home" line of the song.

Title: Five Companions Who Weren't and What Could Have Been
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Hinn_Raven
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 2922 words
Creator's Summary: Five people who almost traveled with the Doctor, and what they could have changed.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor, Toshiko Sato, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Sally Sparrow, Astrid Peth, Donna Noble, Larry Nightingale, Rita Afzal, Amelia Pond, Rory Williams, Wilfred Mott, River Song
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I read this ages ago, and I'm pretty sure that this is the story that gave me the idea for my seasonal challenge attempt for Companions Who Never Were. Also it's a very good story...

Title: Stargazer
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] unknown-kadath
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 4881 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor erased her memories, but in her heart, Donna never quite forgot.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Shawn Temple, Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble, Eleventh Doctor, Original Characters
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A bittersweet story about Donna's life after she is back on earth, told in ten spotlights, each with their own subtitle. I especially appreciate that it fleshes out Shawn, Donna's relationship with him, and what they do with their life together: from setting up the Starlight Foundation with their lottery money to starting a family that keeps the longing for the stars going forth. They also get visited by the Doctor Incognito (more or less) - Eleven as we know him, and then Twelve and Thirteen as envisioned by the author.

Title: Navigable Waters
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] AstroGirl
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 4056 words
Creator's Summary: A "Journey's End" fixit, courtesy of the Seventh Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Seventh Doctor, Wilfred Mott
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: As it says in the summary, this one is a fix-it in which Donna gets her memories back, courtesy of the Seventh Doctor. I really like the changing POVs, the Seventh Doctor (who is notably different from the Tenth here), Donna, and even Wilf getting to tell their experience with the situation. The explanation for why the Doctor is able to fix it here when he couldn't later/earlier is fine by me and I really like the images used for the two-minds-in-one scenario, especially because Donna has her own:

excerpt that made me laugh )

It even solves the problem of Ten not remembering what his previous self did.

Title: Evening Classes
Creator: e]> [archiveofourown.org profile] elstaplador
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 2368 words
Creator's Summary: "Life goes on. It has to. You can't just sit around waiting for someone to come back from outer space. You just get on with it." Spoilers up to and including The End of Time.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Isobel Watkins. (plus some Isobel/OFC, past Zoe/Isobel)

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly challenge of minor/guest characters, I wanted to look up Isobel Watkins fics, because Isobel is amazing and I'm currently rewatching The Invasion, and I found this treasure. It's a touching, wonderful story where post-S4 Donna is attending evening school and becomes friends with Isobel Watkins, now a well-known photographer who is teaching in that school. I love this exploration of what they both could become after their canon, and it feels healing and comforting in the face of certain elements of canon.

This rec happens to fulfill both the minor/guest characters and the 10th Doctor era monthly themes, as well as my female-centric challenge claim.

Title: Journey's Dawn
Creator: [livejournal.com profile] ameretrifle
Rating: PG13
Word Count/Length/Size: Not known
Creator's Summary: Post-Journey's End. Turns out, he's not the only road. Apples, new friends, and family traditions.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Wilf, 10th Doctor
Warnings/Notes: Crossover, occasional dirty language, shameful anti-Ten propaganda (depending on how liberal your definition of 'propaganda' is)

Reasons for reccing: A brilliant Doctor Who / Young Wizards crossover which has as far as I know only been posted to the Livejournal Young Wizards community [livejournal.com profile] myriadwords. It takes a look at the Tenth Doctor's treatment of Donna in the context of the Young Wizards version of magic and the universe, and comes up with some uncomfortable answers.

The link below is to the LAST part of the story, which has links to all of the previous instalments.

Recs bingo! Here is my card and this is my top row second column fill for the prompt: Drunkenness. Two stories this time round (because the first I've recc-ed before but must do so again):

Title: With What You Will (AO3 link)
Creator: Culumacilinte ([archiveofourown.org profile] culumacilinte)
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2423
Creator's Summary: One must be for ever drunken. With wine, with poetry, with virtue, with what you please, but be drunken.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor/Charley Pollard
Warnings: None

Reasons for reccing: I can't not re-rec this story for this prompt. We don't often see Six just having fun and finding joy & silliness in the universe. Nor any much hint of vulnerability. But this is definitely what it would look like, and Charley Pollard is the companion who would draw it out in all its romantic character. This starts out just as a silly scene, but in the end it takes some vino (okay, absinthe) for Charley to find her veritas--that he's still the man she fell in love with. It's on point in character, dialogue, situation and tone. Funny and poignant and shows a side of Six we always know is there deep down. Just a beautiful story.

And another one, not new per se but still amazing and also a perfectly good headcanon:

Title: Six Impossible Things
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] netgirl_y2k
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count: 1248
Creator's Summary: "My favourite impossible thing."
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble/Romana.
Warnings: None.

Reasons for reccing: This one is sharp and witty and fun and has fantastic women fixing things the Doctor has mucked up. Like, oh, Donna's memory wipe. And also robot HR directors. Amazing what some free champagne spiked with reverse ret-con can do, but only if there's a suitable biological receptacle for siphoning the excess vortex energy--well, you'll see what I mean.
