I love seeing Clara slowly unravelling the mystery of her family and wrestling with her feelings for a ghost. Which, ghost!Twelve is fantastic and I really love the backstory for him in this fic. There's just so much lovely angst and pining for Clara and Twelve in this, which I am very much into, and the perfect happy ending for them too.

Reasons for reccing: It's Doctor Who's anniversary - 59 years old today! So I had to rec a multi-Doctor vid, and this one fitted the bill perfectly. It focuses on the goodbyes (and hellos) of regeneration stories over the decades, featuring all the Doctors and a good many companions and adversaries (especially those in the Regeneration episodes), and at the end brings us right up to date with Thirteen. And isn't one of the greatest strengths of this old show of ours, the notion of regeneration - the ability to continually change and grow that's let it carry on for decades, and even regenerate itself after what looked like the end? This is a beautiful exploration of that, in loss and grief - and the joy of renewal.

Reasons for reccing: I followed this as a WIP and it was a wonderful ride! It's a really fun twist on the chameleon arch trope, and in addition to the shippiness (which is very sweet, especially if you're into ironically complicated one-sided pining), there's a surprising amount of action and a lot of really fun teamwork with Clara, Martha, and Osgood. What's the point of time travel if you can't get into love triangles with your future self and introduce your most awesome friends to each other??

Reasons for reccing: In addition to being my second entry for the seasonal challenge, I’m also counting it towards both parts of the monthly theme - in addition to have big not one but two Masters, there’s a ton of humor in this one! Jenny and Harry’s antics are extremely funny, and the author does an excellent job at rewriting series 10 episodes - unlike many authors who try and rewrite the whole story, Cat only writes the parts that have major changes in them due to Twelve’s companions being Jenny and Harry instead of Bill. The result is that the episode rewrites fell fresh and interesting. It’s not all fluff and roses though - there’s a decent amount and angst, especially at the end. Cat’s also writing a series of sequels and side-stories to this one, so if you finish this one and fins yourself wanting more, you can also read those.

Reasons for reccing: I've watched quite a few of the goodbye vids produced in the wake of Twelve's departure. This one slipped by me until tonight, and I was touched by this version of the Doctor's story. The vidder takes a somewhat different slant on his journey of self-discovery, employing quotes and shots familiar from other vids but also using unexpected intercuts and expressions that, among other things, highlight the subtlety and vulnerability of Peter Capaldi's face. The portrait Capaldi created of the Doctor is an extraordinary achievement, IMO, and Sharon Studio assembles a coherent narrative to show us who Twelve is or tries to be. The vid was made before "Twice Upon a Time" aired, which is a shame; it would have reinforced the theme, but never mind. Sharon Studio's love for this Doctor shines through.

Reasons for reccing: Sometimes you just want a singing-out-loud, no-holds-barred ship vid and this is just that for Twelve and Clara. I love that it's told from Clara's POV, showing us how she slowly falls for - or lets herself fall for - Twelve and his personality, and also how intertwined this is with adventuring and a Doctor-y way of life. The editing is lovely and some of the clip choices just made me grin.

Reasons for reccing: I remember watching this after Peter Capaldi was announced as the Doctor. The creator has cleverly taken clips from Doctor Who and Peter Capaldi in The Thick of It to create a funny, sweary trailer for the Twelfth Doctor. It still makes me laugh now. The only disappointing thing is that this isn't what happened in the series.
